The Art Teacher
has left town
in her shiny Mini Cooper, starlight blue
headed into the city
She has abandoned the art lab
the student spilled watercolor trays
the stiff paint brushes
and half colored birds drying
in the air
Now escaped
she is
in full bloom
skirting the fringes
of a Renoir painting
Around the corner from
the art museum
the botanical gardens
beckon a solo engagement
with natural beauty
Her eyes scan
the expanse of treasure
of stolen hours
filling the canvas
of her soul
A freedom
she could now paint
away from
crowded hallways
bustling kids
the shrill cries
of adolescents
Down the stairs
she walks past
a perfect Eiffel Tower
in oil
right into
the most handsome face
a distant cousin
of Lord Byron, perhaps?
And on this day
a million eons away from
the mill and spill
of classes
the trying times of teens
The Art Teacher
prepares to depict
the wild beating
of her heart
at the moment
when love and art
collided
one brilliant autumn afternoon
in a blending
of pure perfection.
Beautiful. I love this song too
Thanks, Holly. That’s a really great song, one of my favorites! 😀
Mmmmm! the Eiffel Tower. I wonder what Paris during this time of year looks like?
Probably better than it looks where we are, LOL 😀
Vienna right now is wonderful with the Christmas Markets and the lights and the snow. 🙂
You are in Vienna? Well you are super lucky then. Enjoy!
ooh Jim Paris is always Paris and beautiful. Who will beat the “CITY OF LOVE?” My most loved city of all time!
so many tourists in the summer but Paris at night is wonderful and especially by boat on the Seine. I got some nice twilight shots that way. 🙂
Thank you for your response. yeas Paris is beautiful at night, this is very true. Lots of interesting places to use your camera, you won’t be disappointed.
Sounds like heaven!
Le very very nice.
Thanks, John! 😀
You are welcome, Lana!!!
Reblogged this on John Cowgill's Literature Site.
yeah, I’d probably run away too!
I’d like to, ha ha 😀
Lana, are some of these emotions that you have shared?! I love the wild sense of freedom and abandonment of the teacher as she leaves the expected norm. A great poem with terrific lines ‘filling the canvas of her soul’!! The song is another one of my favourites…a treat of a post this morning. Xx
Thanks, Annika 😀 I delved into the more sunny and romantic side of life instead of my normal pleasant topics, LOL. That song is wonderful! xo
So beautiful, Lana. A lovely, descriptive poem… great write!
Thanks, Iris. It is not often that I delve into the romantic side of life, but I think I like it there 😀
I enjoyed that too. ♥️
There is a colorful energy to this poem as we are caught up in the movement of the Art Teacher! I like it very much.
Thanks, Jo. I like the image of a lovely, young art teacher free for the day in the realm of possibilities! 😀
Love this one, Lana! Yes, even art teachers are people, aren’t they? And having her find Mr. Right on her stolen time away from students and school is just perfect!
Thanks, Debbie. Can you believe that I crossed over into the more sunny and romantic side of life, LOL. I am a certified teacher, but I work as a substitute teacher, so I often go in and wonder (as do the kids, ha ha) where Miss Jones has gone for the day. I like to imagine that they escape somewhere magical and extraordinary instead of a doctor’s appointment or business meeting. I wrote one last year about the French teacher. I may make it a series, but only for the cool subjects, I can’t imagine the math or physics teachers having any fun, ha ha….that’s a joke of course, if any math teachers see the comment 😀
What a beautiful poem! There is life and beauty beyond the classroom! We never know where our choices will lead, but following one’s heart opens the door of possibility, at least. Loved it, Lana! ❤
Thanks, Diana. Can you believe that sometimes I cross over and write something besides my normal cheery subjects? If you recall, I work as a substitute teacher and I often wonder (as do the kids, ha ha), where Miss Smith has gone for the day. When I imagine what they are doing, then I like to come up with something cool and not mundane 😀
I know you’re a teacher and I could imagine you in this daydream/reality. 🙂
I’m going to be the one who escapes on an airplane (probably to Spain) 😀
Sounds great. 🙂
This is a fairy tale romance for the soul – I so hope it is based in fact ❤ But even if it isn't I would still love how you gave her freedom and wings and followed it all with true love.
Oh Pauline, thank you. Well, it isn’t based on fact, but who knows, there may be an art teacher that has done just that. The inspiration for this poem is that I work as a substitute teacher which means I go into usually a different teacher’s classroom every day and take over for them. I always wonder (as do the kids, ha ha), where Miss Jones has gone for the day. I like to imagine that the teacher is out doing something magical and unique and not going to the dentist or having plumbing issues at home. So when I imagine, I do it with flair 😀
You certainly do!! ❤
“Hey Teacher, leave those kids alone,” – so she did! I loved your poem, who is not happy when the teacher is not around – haha! Lana Year of the Cat is one of my favourite songs. Your poem made my day.
That’s too funny, yes that’s exactly what she did :D. Year of the Cat is one of those songs that is just about everyone’s favorite! I hope you have a great day. xx
These describe just how I feel when I create: “Now escaped / she is / in full bloom” and “a solo engagement” and “the expanse of treasure / of stolen hours.” No Lord Byron for me, but definitely a collision of love and art. Loved the starlight blue Mini Cooper… that one small detail pulls you in, makes the art teacher real, tangible. 🙂
I definitely think that being away from a regimented and structured environment helps us be more creative. Especially away from 25 kids seven times a day, Lol!
Beautiful Lana. And wishing you a beautiful Christmas 🙂 xx
Thanks Debby. I’m wishing you a beautiful Christmas right back 😀
Thank you Lana. 🙂 x
Wow great poetry of song! So you love art? Check out my post for any suggestions! https://wp.me/p9t3QW-3B
I do and I certainly will ! 😀
This is beautiful…the poem in itself is almost like taking in a deep breath of air…you can feel the freedom within those words ❤

Thank you so much for the wonderful compliment, Lis. xx
Did it last, or could you not wait to get back?
That’s a good question, ha ha. I hope it did last just like it does in the movies. 😀
Good for you. Check my new song https://api.jam-community.com/song/detail/23fa00e4-1fbc-11e8-babf-02fe9cf35e65
Sure thing!
I love every single word of this poem 🙂
Thank you so much for your very kind words!
